Vancouver Island University

Nanaimo, BC • 1990
In 1990, we were engaged to provide Campus Planning services for the, then named, Malaspina University-College. The steep site did not allow for fire trucks or ambulances to access each of the existing structures. The campus was particularly poor in catering to students and staff with disabilities. Parking provisions were haphazard. Our terms of reference were to consolidate the campus, create a focal point, provide for pedestrian movement throughout the campus, make provision for new building sites, introduce 'Green' building practice, and redefine existing and future open spaces. The redesign resulting in an Exemplary Practices Award for Campus Planning and Green Building Initiatives.
